FTR Hare Scramble #4 Munden Hill Brooksville Florida. 1/4/2025

Cold nights and beautiful dry days attracted about 500 entries each day for the 2025 Coyotes revenge. The Electric class had another nice showing with 24 entries including 14 Starks, several Ultra Bees, 2 Light Bees, 1 Talaria Sting, 1 XE4 and 1 ominous custom built RME.

Electric Race

A typical Bilbrey start had him playing catchup but by the end of lap one Kaleb was in second place right behind Clark going in for the kill.

We swapped a battery at the first pit stop and immediately the bike started to cut out violently and unexpectedly, slowing him considerably. The 2nd lap found Kaleb in 8th place and pissed off. He knows he is faster than the whole class, but something always happens to thwart his efforts. We swapped a new battery and it seemed to clear up a bit allowing him to make it back to 2nd. He was gaining on Shawn Clark on his XE4 but just ran out of time finishing 2nd. All things considered, we will take it.

At the end it was Clark followed by Bilbrey with Derek Timm rounding out the podium. Venderley ended in 11th with Manny 13th. Brandon and Frank “The Tank” were 18th and 19th respectively.

Points leader Derek Timm aired out his custom RME for another super consistent top 3 finish, maintaining his points lead by 5 points.

Final Results

We eventually found the source of the motor cutting out problem to be EMI created by a loose motor drive sprocket interfering with the controller input. We fixed the loose sprocket and Papa Mike raced the next day and could not reproduce the issue.

SIRRIS SUSPENSION

This was our first race with Sirris suspension under the bike. We only had  a few tuning sessions before the race but the improvements to the bike were tremendous.

We have always had a long range battery that Kaleb hated using with our old suspension because the additional 10lbs compromised the suspension performance and bike handling. Sirris uses dual cartridge, air oil separate forks for truly progressive front end that handled the larger load with no fuss at all.

The addition of the Sirris shock and fork combo has helped elevate our racing program to the next level, allowing the bike to be ridden even faster than before.

Lacerations, Hematomas and Stitches

Kaleb received a hematoma on his head dress.

Frank punctured some part of his body. I’m afraid to ask where.

Kaleb’s pit stop tantrum helped destroy the battery cover      requiring a Frankenstein repair.

Side notes

Just off the start Brandon said there was some asshole yelling at him from behind contributing to his crash.

He said he didn’t see who it was.

On Sunday Kaleb annihilated the Open B class, winning by over 4 minutes.

His front sprocket almost didn’t make it.

He was the fastest B ranked rider on Sunday.

It is so awesome to be racing with such a cool group of like-minded guys out there exploring and just having fun on our little quiet bikes. The awareness is growing for electric off road racing. Not so many snickers and giggles anymore. It’s more genuine interest when we shoot past them on straightaways or hole shot them on the start. Our social media pit stop video has been viewed over 50,000 times. I am learning now that the people viewing it are just interested to see how it all works.

See ya next race!
