Two podium spots were occupied by db riders Kaleb and Manny taking first and third respectively! DirtyBike’s secret sauce paid off again!
Congrats Manny, you did it! Riding your Surron Ultra you persevered over lots of Stark Vargs, XE4’s and hot custom bikes to end up on the podium. Even team Gritshift ended the day with their tails tucked between their legs.
Another loaded field of electric bikes lined up to attack the Indiantown sand course where hot temperatures and deep Florida sand made overheating the theme of the day.
Series leader Derek Timm on his RME and Shawn Clark on an XE4 ended up overheating on the first loop leaving them stranded far from the pits. Shawn’s race was over, but Derek was able to get back to the pits where he changed batteries and started his second loop but (lucky for us) could not complete it.
Kaleb also overheated his Ultra on the first loop but made it to where he could see the pit area. He had to push the bike about 500ft to reach the crew where he got a battery change and Rex cooled the motor off using all the drinking water he could find. With a lower power setting and smart riding, Kaleb was able to flow the bike and not overload the motor — finishing with his second race win in a row.
Manny, using a stock power setup still had some heat issues, riding the last 2 miles in limp mode to secure a 3rd place finish. Not too shabby for his first FTR season – proud of you, man!
Overall, another great event with some new challenges which always help us to develop our DirtyBike parts and build a great race bike.
We have one more FTR hare scramble race before we head to our first GNCC national race during Daytona Bike week. Hope to see you all there!
