FTR Alligator Hare Scramble #7

Ormond Beach Florida 2/15/25

The Ormond Beach course (really in Bunnell) was a mix of deep sand woops, slippery mud, water crossings and slick tree roots that caused havoc with the riders. I think every DirtyBike rider crashed at least once during practice.

Our boys freight trained with Kaleb 3rd Derek 4th Brent 5th and Manny 6th. Brandon played caboose on his Light Bee in 14th.

Kaleb tried to avoid a slower rider and ended up in a water filled ravine. He surfaced to find his googles floating beside him. The bike was under water for just under a minute but was unharmed and he rode it out of the water to continue with the race.

The DirtyBike pits were super busy with battery changes one after another. Luckily none of our 5 riders showed up at the same time.

Frank the Tank didn’t want anything to do with the gnarly track after his practice lap and decided to become one of the pit crew. Even though he chose not to race he is still holding the 10th point spot after the event.

Derek found his problems of last week on his practice lap where one of his batteries continued to act up. He eliminated that one from his battery arsenal and rode as consistent as always coming from behind to finish 4th. That should guarantee him a podium spot for the series no matter how he finishes the next two races.

The XE4 team were hitting on all cylinders this weekend. Shawn Clark was hauling the mail with Joey Medina running blocker for him. Super quick pit stops had them finishing one and two.

Brent returned to the fold and rode smart for a fifth place finish with Manny just behind in 6th.

Brandon made some improvements on his LBX but still struggled with the giant sand woops on his little bike. His finishes have been good enough to place him in the top ten in points!

Points StandingWe had unbelievable weather for Sunday’s race where Kaleb obliterated the Open B class.

The start of the race was 83 degrees and sunny but when the race ended it was 59* and pouring rain. When I realized the situation, I ran to the van and got some roll-off goggles and good thing because when he came in to the pits he still had vision but was out of tear-offs. With new goggles he carried on to not only win the race but end up 24th overall for the day and top point B rider.

Another great event with great friends! Next weekend is the Florida stop on the GNCC series then two more FTR races to finish the season.
